Luo Zhongyou, Chairman of Textile Association: Taiwan Businesses Benefit from India's Takeoff

I am honored to be invited by the Representative Office of India in Taiwan to write this article on the occasion of India's National Day. India's demographic dividend is not to be underestimated, with its annual GDP growth exceeding 7%, and even in the era of the new crown epidemic after 2022, India's GDP is expected to grow to 8.4%. Today, India's industrial textile industry is estimated to have a market capitalization of US$19 billion, contributing about 0.7% of India's GDP and accounting for 13% of the entire Indian textile and apparel industry. In addition to the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) for the electronics industry, the Central Government of India has also launched a PLI for the industrial textile industry in September 2021, which is expected to provide the industry with incentives of about US$1.5 billion over the next five years. Especially with the recent trade war between China and the U.S. intensifying, Taiwan's textile industry has begun to consider relocating the entire supply chain and investing in India's textile professional parks, with more forward-looking textile companies such as Nan Liu Enterprise, You Li Industry, and Yongguang Chemistry, all of which have begun to take practical actions to lay out their markets in India. It is worthwhile for Taiwan's textile industry to think carefully about how to move forward to India so that they can benefit from it together.
